IMPORTANT NOTICE...
A Hat Shop is temporarily suspending orders on our hats and accessories until further notice due to a move to a new location. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you and hope you will check back with us periodically until we are back on line.

Thank you so much for your business and understanding.

Joanie

In the late 1950's Mom and I would go to downtown Detroit for a day of shopping at the big stores. One store that really fascinated me was the "little" millinery shop. Mom and I would have such fun buying the makings for our hats and then go home with big smiles of anticipation.

I've always enjoyed sewing and making things so when I became a new bride, my focus was on the home and then later, on my children. Through those years I always loved my hats and would sometimes buy a new one as a souvenir of a vacation or trip, adding to my collection.

Many years later I remembered someone saying how wonderful it would be if your work or business could be something you really loved! I knew I would really love to make hats. But living in a rural area of the mountains might make that difficult.

That's when I decided to make the Internet work for me in making my dream come true. The local community college had a program where I could learn to create a website. A year later I graduated from that program and had my first website. I had done it! The elation I felt at that ceremony was incredible. People I didn't even know came up to me and told me I had inspired them. Several people even signed up for the program that very night.

My studio had evolved to where I now have International sales, have had several hats at the Kentucky Derby, and special orders for brides and other special events. Red hats are a huge business along with all the fun things such as hat stands, boas, fans, gloves and even scepters for the Queens of the Red Hatter gals. Road trips to the Red Hatter events are such a fun way to get my hats to the public and to meet so many nice ladies.

I now have a job making and selling the hats I love to wear, to gals who love to have fun and do it wearing one of my hats!
